Jan 14-16, 2005 -- Chemeketan Cabin Weekend
Robyn Smith ~ Jan 17, 2005
What an awesome weekend we had!! While the valley was being hit with an ice storm we were enjoying a toasty warm cabin with an abundance of hot food prepared by the best host ever, Steve!! Some of us ventured out in the weather to play while others stayed cozy with a book or a game by the fireplace. We all joined together for dinner & games & conversation in the evening. We are looking forward to this becoming an annual outing.

I agree wholeheartedly with Robyn, it really was a fantastic weekend. Everything went seamlessly.

I was able to spend some good quality time with Shannon and my son Nolan, who liked the cabin so much that he has decided to live there. I'm not sure how he's going to go about making that happen, but he seems pretty determined.

We spent time skiing, eating, snowshoeing, eating, playing games, eating some more, and having a great time. We even had an after dinner yoga session, led by yours truly, assisted by Spider Man (it's difficult to explain...). Fortunately, Tim Smith posted pictures of this to the web, or no one would buy it!

I can assure you, dear reader, that no one went hungry on this trip! Shannon wondered if Steve was going to put us all in the oven at some point. Then she got nervous and tried to follow the bread-crumb trail back to Whitewater Creek Road...

I am hoping that Steve makes this a regular event on his schedule. I would highly recommend this trip to any of you- so long as you are not dieting; if so, don't even think about it. Otherwise, see you next year!

Sixteen participants converged on the rustic Chemeketan Cabin, also known as the Thunderbird Lodge for a winter get away on Martin Luther King weekend. Cabin host Steve Dougherty and Tim Smith arrived at the cabin around noon on Friday to open up the cabin and get the place warmed up before the guests arrived later in the day. Less than a foot of snow allowed participants to drive their vehicles all the way to the cabin. The cabin host arranged for the rental of the cabin, purchased food and coordinated kitchen activity while cabin guests were encouraged to use the cabin as a base for informal winter activities. Outdoor excursions included an ambitious hike up Bruno Mountain (Scott Phillips, Matthew Phillips, and Jon Ellis), long skis/snowshoes up Whitewater Road (Tim and Robyn Smith, Jon and Gloria Petrie). Evenings were filled with conversation and an entertaining game of "Catch Phrase". Participants pitched in willingly to accomplish the many chores associated with cabin life, such as stoking fires and wood stoves, cooking and dishwashing, hauling water from near by Whitewater Creek, stocking the cabin wood pile and chopping wood. All participants except the cabin host's family were staying at the cabin for their first time, and without exception, all plan to use the cabin again for future family get aways. Steve plans to host the cabin again next year.

Members: Steve Dougherty(Cabin Host), Ryan Good, Shannon Tennant, Tim Smith, Robyn Smith, Jon Ellis, Scott Phillips, Tammy Phillips, John Petrie, and Gloria Petrie. Guests: Nolan Good,Tawny Gates, Tyler Gates, Shelley Dougherty, Beth Dougherty, and Matthew Phillips.
