Dec 1, 2010 -- Introduction to Snowshoeing
Vance Snook ~ Dec 2, 2010
We attended the December 1 Intro to Snowshoeing class. The class was very well laid out. The information presented was complete and easy to understand. We came away with a very good understanding what to expect when we go snowshoeing.

Thanks Steve for a great class.

Steve - that was a great class, thank you! Very informative and engaging. Looking forward to the January trip!

Steve Dougherty ~ Dec 3, 2010
The First Annual Winter Gear Swap was an official flop. Only one person with gear to sell showed up. This will not be continued in the future.

The first session of the Chemeketan Introduction to Snowshoeing started shortly after 7 p.m. The Den was filled to near capacity with over 60 participants. Steve credits the article written by Henry Miller of the Statesman Journal for the popularity of this event. Ken Ash spoke briefly about who the Chemeketans are and how one can get involved in a Winter Sports trip. Instructor, Steve Dougherty, covered the material available in the electronic handout. Steve brought in snowshoes and a backpack full of gear to demonstrate what type of equipment one should take on a winter day trip. Steve's wife Shelley and daughter Anne Marie provided refreshments for an 8 p.m. break. The final topics included snowshoe technique and logistics for the two beginner snowshoe trips that Steve is leading. The training ran 15 minutes later than the scheduled 8:45 p.m. dismissal. The electronic handout and the recipe for Steve's extra oatmeal chocolate chip cookies can be found under the "more" links on the Introduction to Snowshoeing web page. Two additional sessions are planned for Dec 2 and Dec 6 to accomodate the overwhelming interest.

This was a great introduction! One sure sign that it was sucessful is that Value Village was all out of men's wool pants today! The class was well organized and gave just the right amount of detail! Thanks! I was a member of the Chemeketans 20 years ago and look forward to participating again!

Karen Albers ~ Dec 3, 2010
Very good introductory class re: equipment, practical clothing recommendations, and other basics. We are looking forward to the trip to Maxwell Butte to actually put everything into practice.
