Leader Comments
The Chemeketan Route Finding School was run for its third time in late October to a near sell out crowd of 40 students. The school was conducted in its usual format of three sessions: Using Maps (Wed), Using Map & Compass (Sat) and Using GPS (Sun). Chemeketan members paid a $15 fee to cover the cost of the participant notebook and class materials. Non-members paid a $35 fee. The school earned a profit of nearly $300. Classroom sessions were conducted in the Chemekeden and field sessions were held at Salem’s Riverfront Park. The field sessions were especially enjoyable thanks to dry weather and moderate temperatures. The school was staffed by eight enthusiastic leaders who, thanks to John Petrie, were easily identified with red Chemeketan hats. Thank you to all the leaders for volunteering their time for the three school sessions and the notebook building work session held Saturday, Oct. 9. A special thank you to John and Gloria Petrie for organizing the field session setup, station management and breakdown.
