| The leader's wife and three children along with three Chemeketan members piled into the family Suburban shortly after 8 a.m. Sunscreen and sunglasses were donned under a partly cloudy sky as group members began their seven mile journey. A chilly breeze and no new snow during the past week hinted at the possibility of icy conditions. However, by the one mile mark the group was shedding layers and enjoying the fast snow conditions. The snow continued to soften as temperatures warmed a few degrees. The group stopped for a lengthy lunch at the Brandenburg Shelter where the leader heated chili and ramen soup for group members. The return trip was done in spring like conditions. A stop at The Cedars restaurant in Detroit highlighted the return trip to Salem. Participants were leader S. Dougherty, wife Shelley and children Brad, Anne Marie and Beth, Michelle Mercier, Laura Schellin, and assistant Cindi Ewert.
